A History of St. Matthew's

Home Welcome! Photo Albums Resources Our Story Bishop's Committee Daughters of Hope Stewardship

St. Matthew's story began on Mother's Day, May 9, 1999, celebrating the Holy Eucharist at Cross Country Feed in Bosque Farms, NM.  One year later the congregation was able to secure the use of a vacated chapel in Los Lunas New Mexico, and as we grew we made plans for our future, by building a new home in the Huning Ranch area.

We entered our new church home on Palm Sunday, 2012 and have celebrated regular worship ever since.

St. Matthew's was first served by Fr. Phil West.  When Fr. West left St. Matthew's , Fr. Bob Bryan was called to serve.  Fr. Bob was assisted by Deacon Leonard Lewis, aka "the Friendly Deacon".

When Fr. Bob retired in April of 2006,  Deacon Leonard left as well.  The congregation was then served by The Rev. Laurie Wells, followed by The Rev. Libby Weber who served as Priest-in-Charge.

In December 2006, Fr. Robert Mundy was called to serve as Vicar and serves the people of St. Matthew's to this day.

St. Matthew's continues to grow as a place of worship and community. We have added a labryinth to our grounds, and continue to welcome you, just as you are! Join us in faith and fellowship throughout the week.
